Fisher Cats result
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored two runs in the top of the ninth, but left the tying run on third base in a 6-5 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs in Maine. The Fisher Cats trailed, 6-3, entering the ninth inning, but opened the frame with three consecutive singles against Portland closer Jordan Weems. New Hampshire scored a run on a wild pitch and Harold Ramirez drove home a run on a groundout, but Weems struck out Cavan Biggio and forced Jon Berti to groundout to earn the save. The Fisher Cats got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Berti and an RBI double from Guillotte, but the Sea Dogs took the lead with a pair of runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings.
Youth baseball
In New England Independent Baseball League action, the Concord Capitols split a doubleheader against Nashua. Nashua defeated Concord, 7-4, in game one, but Mario Fusco hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Concord to a 3-2 win in game two. Fusco also earned the win on the mound in relief. Kevin Anderson and Garin Treybig each had three hits in game one, while Darren Earley pitched well as the starter in game two.
Camps/Clinics/Lessons
Seacoast United Baseball Club will host a summer baseball skills series on Mondays in July. Skills camps will focus on general hitting and defensive concepts. Camps will meet from 9-11 a.m. on Monday and July 23 at the Seacoast United Concord Indoor Facility located at 10 Ferry St. Registration is $75 per session and includes a t-shirt. Concord Parks & Recreation Girls’ Lacrosse Camp for ages 8-14 will be held from Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-noon. Join coach Sean O’Brien for a week of skills, drills and games.
Tide Jumpers basketball camp is open to students in grades K-2 and will run from Monday-Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the City Wide Community Center. Concord High varsity coaches Dave Chase and Tim LaTorra will lead the camp, which will emphasize ball handling, shooting, layups, passing and catching, sportsmanship and the basics of defense. Basketball Developmental Camp is open to students in grades 3-4 and is focused on honing individual skills and preparing the camper for next season. Middle School 3-v-3 & Shooting Camp is open to students in grades 5-8 and will run from Monday-Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the City Wide Community Center. Concord High varsity coaches Dave Chase and Tim LaTorra will lead the camp, which focuses on skill development, shooting and understanding how to play three-on-three basketball.
Play On! Soccer Camp will be held at NHTI on Monday-Friday for boys and girls in grades 1-3. A second session for grades 4-11 will be led by Heidi Crockett and Derek Johnson.
Little Hitters Tennis classes offered by Concord parks and recreation for ages 4-7 will run Tuesday, Thursday, July 24 and July 26 and is an introduction to the sport using the United States Tennis Association’s “10 and Under” format to help kids learn and experience the game in a way that is enjoyable and rewarding. Bow High field hockey will host a two-day clinic for players in grades 7-12 on Wednesday and Thursday at New England College with instruction provided by World Camp USA field hockey international staff. NH Lightning and Concord National Youth Softball will hold a two-day half-day fundamentals camp on July 23 and July 24 at Martin Field in Concord for children ages 7-14. The camp is open to all players from any program and community. Registration is open from 8-8:45 a.m. on each day, and camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon with optional pitching and catching clinics from 1-2 p.m. Cost is $25 for the fundamentals clinic, and $40 for the combined fundamentals and pitching and catching program. Concord Crew Learn to Row program offers new rowers in grades 7-12 an opportunity to learn the basics. There will be some light land work but the bulk of each day is spent learning the basics of sweep oar rowing and teamwork on the Merrimack River with peers and coaches. CARAMBA Soccer Camps, run by USSF A licensed director Jorge Pardo, will be held for players in grades 1-8 throughout the summer. Miller’s Soccer School at Brewster Academy will hold a camp July 27-30. Concord Sports Center will be offering a baseball team in the Granite State Showcase League this fall. Concord High School and Rundlett Middle School athletics registrations are open. Parents must sign in to their PowerSchool Parent account at ps.sau8.org, or go to sau8.org and choose Athletics. If you have not yet signed up to PowerSchool Parent, you will need the one-time Access ID and access password for each of your children, which may be obtained from Rundlett Middle School at 225-0862 or Concord High at 225-0819. CHS registration closes Aug. 1. Rundlett registration closes Sept. 8. Athletes are strongly encouraged to register at this time.
Merrimack Valley High School fall sports start on Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m. except for football and spirit. Football equipment handout will be on Aug. 9 for grades 11-12 from 3:30-5 p.m. and on Aug. 10 for grades 9-10 from 3:30-5 p.m. Fall spirit tryouts will be on Aug. 20 from 8-10 a.m. at Penacook Elementary School. Athletes starting on Aug. 13will meet on their respective game field in the stands. All athletes must have a physical on file (given after Jan. 1 of athletes’ eighth-grade year) and current ImPact test (must recertify every two years). Physicals and ImPact tests are required prior to trying out. Interscholastic Athletic Agreement forms must be signed by the student-athletes and returned on Aug. 14.

New England Fusion U16 Gold softball is looking for a utility player to add to the team. The team currently has players from Concord, Pembroke, Litchfield, Londonderry, Pinkerton Academy, Souhegan, Windham and Milford. Practices are held in Londonderry and the team competes in local tournaments as well as nationals. Player fees will be prorated. New England Wolves U14 Hockey is looking for a few more players for the 2018-19 season. The team is open to experienced skaters in born in 2004 and 2005. Public roller skating nights are returning this summer to the Douglas N. Everett Arena on Friday and Sunday nights. Admission is $5 and skate rentals are available for $5. Skating hours are 6-8 p.m. on Fridays and 5-7 p.m. on Sundays. World Cup watch party will be hosted by the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team at Wildcat Stadium on Sunday at 11 a.m. The game will be shown live on the video board. The event is free and open to the public. Youth soccer teams are encouraged to play on the field during the game, while members of the UNH men’s soccer team will also be on hand signing 2018 UNH men’s soccer schedule posters. Concessions will be available for purchase and the UNH men’s soccer gear store will be open.
Rotary Club of Concord’s annual golf fundraiser will be held on Tuesday at Pembroke Pines with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $400 per foursome, which includes golf fees, breakfast, lunch and prizes. Seacoast Ingard Tennis Tournament is scheduled for July 27-29 at the Seacoast Indoor Tennis Club in North Hampton. Deadline to register is July 25 at 8 p.m. Categories include men’s and women’s open and A singles and doubles, as well as age 55-and-over men’s singles and doubles. Mixed doubles will be contested in open, A and B categories. Junior divisions for girls and boys age 16 and 18 and under. Open players generally have a suggested rating of 4.5-plus, while A players are 4.0 or below. Doubles and mixed doubles ratings would be 9.0-plus in the Open categories, and 8.0 or below in the A categories, and B mixed doubles would be 7.0 or below.
